Our Secretary has received a communication from the National Trust which members may be interested in. A transcript appears below
Hello, I work at Lanhydrock House and am contacting you because we are beginning a project which might interest your members and I’d be grateful if you could pass details of the project on to them. Both Lanhydrock House and Cornwall's Regimental Museum are working on inventory photography projects. We'll be digitally photographing the Victorian family's photography collection at Lanhydrock, while the Regimental Museum is photographing their entire collection for a new inventory system. There are over 5000 photographs from the Agar-Robartes family’s collection in the archive at Lanhydrock House, which evoke a real sense of the Victorian period. Recording them all digitally will help with their conservation, make research easier and preserve them for future generations.
Cornwall’s Regimental Museum holds a wealth of military artefacts, each of which need to be photographed for a new inventory system. We'll be working together to recruit and train a dedicated team of volunteers to carry out the specialised photography on the project. The team will have specialist training in using our photography equipment, lights etc, how to take catalogue standard images, to handle the collections to conservation standards, to record the data, and also how to talk to other people about the project, as we hope to carry out some of the work in front of visitors. It’s a great opportunity to get up close and personal with a real slice of history, which most people don’t get the chance to see.
If any of your members are interested in taking part in the project and would like to find out more about this opportunity, please ask them to contact me, the project officer, on dawn.todd@nationaltrust.org.uk or call 01208 265961/265960 and ask for Dawn Todd.
